About LARK

In 1989 a group of Armenian-American musicians, music teachers, community leaders, and arts patrons established an organization dedicated to nurturing the Armenian musical arts within a matrix composed of American culture and Western classical music. The organization has metamorphosed since then to become the Lark Musical Society, under whose auspices the goals mentioned above have focused on three independent but integrated areas of activity -- Education, Performance, and Research and Publication (Drazark Press). Through these activities, "Lark," as the organization is affectionately called, is helping to promote a deeper understanding of Armenian music from local to international levels, is shaping a new generation of professional Armenian musicians, and music lovers, and, in integrating these within the broader Los Angeles-area music community, is helping to preserve Armenian and Western classical music traditions for everyone.

Lark's critically acclaimed achievements have been made possible through its enthusiastic resolve to create an environment favorable to the musical arts, together with generous donations of time, creative energy, and contributions by many Armenian community establishments, organizations and individuals. Remarkably, it has also attracted members of the Greater Los Angeles music circles as Conservatory instructors, concert performers, and avid program supporters. Lark activities strive to ensure the preservation of our artistic past and the perpetuation of our cultural patrimony.
